John W. Diener, 88, of Noblesville, passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Riverview Health. He was born on January 3, 1929 to Charles and Agnes (Colman) Diener in Albany, New York.
John was a 1948 graduate of Albany High School, proudly served his country with the United States Army National Guard and Army Reserves. He entered as a Private and retired as a Colonel. For over 40 years, he worked as a systems analyst for the State of New York, retiring in 1991. John was a Christian and was affiliated with the Church of Christ. He was a sports enthusiast, and was a fan of any school his children attended. John enjoyed theater, beautiful music, and loved good food; he was an adventurous eater. John was a loyal & generous man to his family and those his family loved. He was a loving father, husband and friend, and was expressive in letting them know it. A life-long supporter of those with visual impairment, John gave generously to the training of service animals and audio books. He loved life and wanted to improve the lives of others by being an organ donor.
John is survived by his daughter, Bethany Lee Diener; son, Alexander C. Diener; very dear friend, Erma Morgan; brothers & sisters-in-law, Arthur & Gayle Atkinson, Oren & Ernestine Atkinson, and Joseph & Judy Atkinson; as well as many nieces & nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 38 years, Elizabeth Anne Diener in 2001; and siblings, C. Lester & Joan Diener, Richard & Barbara Atkinson, John & Rosemary McCrory, and Don Atkinson.
Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at Randall & Roberts Fishers Mortuary, 12010 Allisonville Road in Fishers, with visitation one hour prior. A Committal Service and Burial will be at 10:30 am, Saturday, May 13, 2017 at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, 303 Sand Creek Rd. in Albany, New York.
