John Patrick McNelis, 67, of Noblesville, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at St. Vincent Hospital - 86th St. in Indianapolis. He was born on April 22, 1945 to Michael Owen and Clara Elizabeth (Hughey) McNelis in Indianapolis, Indiana. They preceded him in death.
John worked at Navistar (formerly known as International Harvester) for 45 years, from 1965 to 2009. He was a journeyman in machine repair, and worked his way up to a skilled trade supervisor. He was a veteran of the United States Army, and a member of St. Louis de Montfort Catholic Church in Fishers.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Silvie (Stinson) McNelis, whom he married September 4, 1970; three sons, David (Christine) McNelis; Ryan (Kathryn) McNelis, and Scott (Kera) McNelis; granddaughter, Eleanor McNelis; grandson, John Pauls; brother, Michael D. McNelis; sister, Anne E. Schuchman; sister, Patricia J. Dooley; and brother, Christopher J. McNelis.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 3, 2013, at St. Louis de Montfort Catholic Church, 11441 Hague Road, in Fishers, with Rev. John Zahn officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Randall & Roberts Fishers Mortuary, 12010 Allisonville Road, Fishers. Burial will be at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Indianapolis.
