John Wilbur Rusk

John Wilbur Rusk, 95, of Fishers, passed away on Thursday, September 22, 2016. He was born on January 13, 1921 to Everett and Mary Rusk in Kokomo, Indiana.
John was a graduate of Kokomo High School, and served overseas as an MP in the United States Army during World War II. Upon receiving an honorable discharge in 1946, he returned home to begin employment with Shell Oil Company as a fuel oil truck driver. After moving to Indianapolis in 1961, John transferred to the accounting department at the Zionsville bulk plant for Shell from which he retired in 1986. He enjoyed working in his yard, riding his bicycle, walking, crossword puzzles, Sudoku, and helping others in his neighborhood. Most of all, John loved his family. He was a long-time member of Allisonville Christian Church.
John is survived by his son, Toney (Cindy) Rusk; two granddaughters, Melissa (Nathan) Gray and Allison (Dustin) Smith; four great-grandchildren, Natalie and Cameron Gray, and Brooke and Cody Smith; as well as several nieces & nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his three sisters, Ethel Rusk, Irene Grove, and Wilma Kelly; his wife of 39 years, Maxine Rusk; and a son, Steven, who died at birth.
A celebration of life service will be held at 12:00 pm on Monday, September 26, 2016 at Allisonville Christian Church, 7701 Allisonville Road in Indianapolis, with visitation beginning at 10:00 am. Rev. Diane Spleth will officiate. Burial will be at Crown Point Cemetery in Kokomo.
