Joe was a graduate of Frankfort High School, in Frankfort, Indiana. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1951, and entered the United States Army in 1952. Joe proudly served his country in the Korean War, where he served as a dispatcher for helicopters and later as a stenographer at the Peace Talks in Panmunjom when the truce was signed.
Joe married the love of his life, Lois Ann Edmiston of Bedford, Indiana on October 20, 1962 in Bedford. They spent 54 happy years together, raising their daughter, Catherine Ann, and doing the things together that they enjoyed the most. Joe and Lois Ann spent many hours playing golf, as members of Heather Hills Country Club. They made many life-long friends playing in several bridge clubs. Together Joe and Lois Ann enjoyed cheering for the football team of the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame, through many seasons with ups and downs.
Joe was a pharmaceutical salesman, originally for Kiefer Stewart in Indianapolis. He visited the small, independent pharmacists in his territory weekly, developing close relationships. Many of his clients became close friends and remained so throughout his life.
