Joseph Shanta

Joseph W. Shanta, 94, Noblesville, (formerly of Hammond) passed away Friday, October 3, 2008 at Harbour Manor Care Center  in Noblesville. He was born May 12, 1914 in Pensacola, Florida to Charles and Theresa (Neubauer) Shanta.
Joseph had lived in Hammond most of his life. He had worked for Metz Furniture Factory for 27 years. He was an Army Air Force WWII veteran. He enjoyed baseball (especially the Cubs) and carpentry; and had worked on both radio and television.
He is survived by sister-in-law, Margaret Shanta of Las Vegas, NV; nine nieces & nephews, Jackie Clark Pasko of Noblesville, IN,   Don Clark of Noblesville, IN, Robert (& Marsha) Underwood of Roanoke, VA, Phillip (& Rose) Shanta of St. John, IN, Royleen Shanta Owczarak of Las Vegas, NV, Karen Shanta of Las Vegas, NV, Charleen Tom of Henderson, NV, Cecila Shanta of Las Vegas, NV, & Cheryl Underwood of Noblesville, IN; several great-nieces & nephews; and several great-great-nieces & nephews.
In addidtion to his parents, he is preceeded in death by seven brothers & sisters, Hilda Shanta, Mary Shanta, Margaret Clark, Charles Shanta Jr., Albert Shanta, August Shanta, & Cecilia Underwood; and a niece, Carol Shanta Vojvoda.
Services will be held at 11:00AM on Monday, October 6, 2008 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hammond, with Father Roy Beeching officiating. Friends may call Monday, October 6, from 10:30 - 11:00 AM at the church. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Hammond.
