June B. Bartels, 96, of Noblesville was called to her eternal home on February 20. She was born on June 19, 1912 to Albert H. and Della Kester Peters of DeKalb County. June married Franklin C. Bartels in 1934, and they enjoyed nearly 50 years of companionship until his death in 1984.
Growing up on a farm, June attended a one room school and was later graduated from Auburn High School. In her early years, she was a member of the DeKalb Hospital Guild, the DeKalb County Charm and Chatter Homemakers Club, and the Ladies Aid at Trinity Lutheran Church.
Activities June enjoyed included cooking, gardening, sewing, crafts, and chalk talks. A dress June knitted was Grand Champion in the Groovy Grandma Division at the State Fair in 1971. She was a driver for Meals on Wheels until she was 80 years old. June was known for being a lover of cats and had a variety of cat memorabilia.
A member of Christ Lutheran Church in Noblesville, June served on the Altar Guild and was active in The Lutheran Women's Missionary League.
June was affectionately called 'Gigi' by her seven grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Surviving are daughters Doris (William) Boyer of Auburn, Alabama and Donna (Carl) Holl of Noblesville. Grandchildren: Kimberly (Tim) Etcheson of Columbia, South Carolina; Peggy (Chris) Sedlacek of Hoover, Alabama; Teresa (Robert) Champion of Crestview, Florida; Catherine (Doug) Costelle of Avon; Cheryl (Joseph) Milukas of Darien, Connecticut; Mark (YuChong) Holl of Carmel; and Michael Holl of Carmel.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Christ Lutheran Church in Noblesville at 10AM, Saturday, March 7 with visitation one hour preceding the service. Burial will follow at 2:30PM at Woodlawn Cemetery in Auburn, Indiana.
