The angels rejoiced in heaven Monday evening, April 9, 2012, when June Augusta Estes Bays, 89, of Noblesville, joined her Lord and Savior. She was born June 7, 1922, in Arjay, Kentucky to William ("Bunk") Dillard Estes and Minnie Mae Mullins Estes. She was a lifelong disciple of Christ, guiding light and shining example to others, and 38-year member of Green Valley Church of Christ in Noblesville. She was an excellent seamstress with other hobbies of crossword puzzles and flower gardening. She was a homemaker for most of her life, although she did work for eight years as a cook in the Lee County (VA) Jail when her husband was County Sheriff, and in the Bonny Blue Post Office prior to her marriage.
Survivors include her niece Joanne Matavuli-Giles and husband Russ Giles; and Rene Matavuli Riley and husband Patrick Riley, daughter Nicole Riley and son Mason Riley; Charmaine Matavuli, daughter Emma Eads; Marco Matavuli and wife Stacey and daughters Elayne Matavuli and Lillie Matavuli. Survivors also include two friends she penned as "adopted nieces" - Joan Huff and Jean Lawless, best friend Rosemary Fugate, and a host of other close friends.
She was predeceased in death by her parents; only child, David Merle Bays, on June 10, 1976, at the young age of 18; her husband of 30 years, Merle Edwin Bays, on June 10, 1979; and her only sibling, sister Faye Estes Mountain ten years ago at the age of 81. She and her sister were inseparable throughout their lives.
She was a devoted wife, mother, aunt, and friend to all who knew her. She leaves many precious legacies of faith, joy, and love. One of the biggest is she always had positive and encouraging words to say to everyone who crossed her paths - words that will live on and inspire for years to come.
Visitation is Thursday, April 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Randall & Roberts Funeral Home, 1150 Logan St., Noblesville, with the memorial service at 11 a.m. Friday, April 13, at Green Valley Church of Christ, 19005 Cumberland Rd., Noblesville, with Minister Jim Dillinger officiating.
