Kenneth E. "Ken" Bloomhorst, 85, of Fishers, passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2018 at his home. He was born on August 23, 1932 to Karl M. and Maurice C. (Montgomery) Bloomhorst in Dayton, Ohio.
Ken graduated from The Dayton Art Institute with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and had also attended William and Mary University in Norfolk, Virginia. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956. Ken was a nationally known award-winning art director, graphic designer and illustrator. He designed the federal symbol for the United States Environmental Protection Agency and is represented in the Smithsonian Institute and the Library of Congress. Ken was a member of the Hamilton County Artists' Association, the Hoosier Salon, the Watercolor Society of Indiana, the Indiana Plein Air Painter's Association, and the Indiana Wildlife Artist. He was also a past board member of the Conner Prairie Advisory Council, Fishers Art Council, and the Museum of Indiana Heritage. Ken had worked for many companies, including Lambert, Dawson & Hageman Studio; Johnson Sabatino Studio in Dayton, Ohio; Ruben Advertising Agency; Handley Miller Advertising Agency; Caddell Van Riper Advertising Agency; Bloomhorst, Story & O'Hara Advertising Agency; and Ken Bloomhorst Design of Indianapolis.
He is survived by his daughters, Gwendolyn K. Fajardo, Lisa G. (Stephen) Timme, and Jill A. (Steven) Grusing; one son, Kip W. Bloomhorst; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Ken was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta H. (Chadwell) Bloomhorst; and sister, Sharon McDermott.
Services will be held at 4:00 pm on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Randall & Roberts Fishers Mortuary, 12010 Allisonville Road, in Fishers, with visitation from 1:00 pm to the time of service. Jack O'Hara will officiate. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Indianapolis.
