Margaret Ann (Peggy) Russell, 80, of Noblesville passed away October 21, 2016 in the arms of her daughter Nancy at Kindred Transitional Unit in Greenwood. She was born in Leavenworth, Kansas on February 18, l936 to the late Frances V. Robinson and Charles F. Robinson of Indianapolis. Although Peggy was suffering with a long, serious illness, she had the constant care of her daughter, by her side.
Margaret was highly educated. She is a graduate of the l954 class of St.Mary Academy High School, Indianapolis. She obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree at the College of St. Francis, Joliet, Illinois. Peggy's career involved nursing of several different specialties. She received her R.N. degree from St. Vincent Hospital School of Nursing, Indianapolis. She attended many professional educational opportunities throughout her whole life, such as the IUPUI Women's Studies Program in Addictions. She was an advocate for the mentally ill through the National Alliance of Mental Illness and served on the "Good Samaritan Board" here in Noblesville at Third Phase, along with her daughter Nancy. Peggy also had R.N. certification in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing and worked at Community North Hospital at the Psychiatric Pavilion there on the Older Adult Unit giving specialty care to not only the elderly but also worked with adolescent psychiatry. Peggy was also a Master's degree student at Loyola University.
Peggy began her career at Community Hospital East as Charge Nurse in l957. She then became the Director of Nursing at University Heights Hospital, Indianapolis. She then went into critical care at Community East Hospital. Obstetrics and general surgery were her interests at Riverview Hospital where she worked from l973-l977. After that her passion was directed toward Psychiatric Nursing at Community North for many years, from which Peggy retired. After she retired, she went on to become the Democratic candidate for Noblesville City Council. She has been a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church since l968 and was very involved with the Parish.
Peggy is survived by two daughters, Nancy Susan Russell (formerly Nancy Mills), and Laura Ann Russell of Los Angeles, California. She is preceded in death by her youngest child, Brent William Russell, and her husband William Conrad Russell who was a Channel 6 News Photographer during the l950's through the l970's. Also preceding her in death is her sister, the late Rita Robinson. Peggy is the oldest of 7 children. She is survived by her sister Mary Allen, and brothers Charles Robinson, Robert Robinson, Joseph Robinson, and Daniel Robinson, all of the Indianapolis area.
Calling hours will be Thursday, October 27, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. Services will be held at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church on October 28, Friday, as follows: visitation from 10 a.m. with the funeral Mass starting at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Oaklawn in Fishers.
Both Peggy and her daughter Nancy would like to thank the doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists, and CNA's of both Riverview Hospital and Kindred Specialty Hospital, where she received excellent care.
