Marguerite (Toots) Swartz was born September 5, 1917 in rural Washington County near Copan, OK, to Marvin M. and Ellen May (Ward) Mackey. Her father gave her the nickname of 'Toots' at an early age and she has been known as 'Toots' ever since.
She was reared and received her education in the Pleasant Grove and Cotton Valley Elementary Schools of Washington County, OK and graduated from Copan High School in Copan, OK.
She married Herschel Alvin Swartz on January 12, 1937 at Bartlesville, OK, and they established their first home in the rural Caney, KS community where they owned and operated a service station. They moved to Coffeyville, KS, where Herschel was employed by Town Talk Bread Company. Later they moved to rural Washington County where they operated a farm until 1946, when Herschel became employed with Farmland Industries and they settled just north of the Dewey, OK community. Mr. Swartz retired in 1980 with 34 years of service. After Herschel's death in 1992, Marguerite continued living in the rural Dewey area until 2004, when she moved with her daughter to Noblesville, IN. 'Toots' became a resident of Riverwalk Common where she enjoyed participating in the activities of the center with her dear friend, Ruth Rasmussen.
Marguerite 'Toots' was faithful to God serving as a Sunday School teacher for forty years in her church. She loved to cook and her home was always open to guests. She was famous for her 'Tootles Noodles'. She enjoyed sewing and making quilts for the members of her family.
She loved her family intensely, caring for them while always setting the example of a Christ-centered life. She had a unique, loving relationship with each member of her family, including her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She will live forever in their hearts.
