Maria Cornelia Ataide, 71, of Noblesville, passed away on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at home. She was born on July 11, 1945 to Michael and Cornelia (Barnard) Fourie in Pretoria, South Africa.
Maria retired from Alberton High School in South Africa, after teaching business economics, accounting and typing for 40 years. She immigrated to the United States in 2012; and was a member of Noblesville First United Methodist Church where she was involved with the Dinners On Us, Ugly Quilts, and Elderberries programs. She also was a volunteer at Conner Prairie and the Fishers YMCA.
She is survived by her daughter, Melanie Angbao; brother, Danie Fourie; three grandchildren, Sophia, Simon and Solomon Angbao; two nieces, Adele and Michelle; and two nephews, Andre and Danie.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Romulo Ataide who passed away in 2012; and her son, Miguel who passed away in 2013.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at Noblesville First United Methodist Church, 2051 Monument Street in Noblesville with Lay Minister Phyllis Hunter officiating.
