Mark Alan Myers

Mark Alan Myers, 64, passed away on Monday, October 28, 2024 at Riverview Hospital in Westfield. He was born on August 26, 1960, to Alan and Barbara Myers. Known to family and friends as "Freddy," Mark was the oldest of three siblings and a spirited older brother. He cherished his role as the big brother, affectionately teasing and playfully tormenting his sisters, Tana and Beth. With hands they described as "vice grips," his sisters soon learned to always keep a step ahead of him. Growing up on Oak View Farms, he loved riding horses, working cattle, and raising hogs. Mark's playful nature led him to invent games on horseback, often landing his sisters in trouble. He once promised them a dime to retrieve their father’s whip from a mud hole. The girls, now covered head to toe in mud, were scolded, while Mark’s mischievous grin shone brighter than ever.

Summers on the farm were filled with riding sows at dawn, pony rides to the creek, and endless games on horseback. Mark was a ten year 4-H member, where his favorite project was beef cattle. He excelled at breaking calves and proudly collected champion ribbons, handling even the wildest of steers with his characteristic fearlessness. In later years, he delighted in supporting his nieces and nephews at their own livestock shows, sharing in their accomplishments with pride.

Mark also played football, first with the Carmel Pups and later with Carmel High School, where he contributed to a state championship win in his senior year. A graduate of Purdue University, Mark earned a degree in animal sciences and was a proud member of the AGR fraternity and the meat judging team. He remained a loyal Purdue fan, even though trying seasons, rarely missing a football or basketball game.

After college, Mark returned to the family farm, dedicating his life to row crops, Chester White hogs, and Simmental cattle. One of his greatest joys was breeding and showing Percheron horses with his father. Together, they raised Champion Bred and Owned Mare at the National Percheron Show, a testament to their shared passion. He also loved fishing and took annual trips to Lake Cumberland, gathering friends and family for memorable weekends.

Mark had a special bond with his nieces and nephews, teaching them to ride horses, helping with their 4-H projects, and never missing an opportunity for a good prank. From sledding adventures where he would sneak out to scare them, to sneaking puppies home from a sale, his humor and encouragement left a lasting impact. His advice “might as well get two puppies, you will only get in trouble once” summed up his joyful spirit perfectly.

Mark was a man of humor, generosity, and deep family ties. Always ready with a prank, a helping hand, or a laugh, he made every gathering brighter. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and community.
