Mary Catherine Anglin Stookey, 96, passed away on June 2, 2014 at the Prairie Lakes Health Campus, Noblesville, Indiana. She was born on February 18, 1918 to the late Raymond F. and Allie N. (Stackhouse) Anglin in Nappanee, Indiana and attended school in Milford, Indiana. On November 29, 1934 she married Emra G. Stookey and they were married for almost 66 years before he passed away on November 25, 2000. They spent all their lives farming beginning in 1935 on rented farms around Waterloo, Indiana. In February 1942 they moved to Leesburg, Indiana to his father's dairy farm, homesteaded by his ancestors, known as Prairie View Stock Farm. Mary and Emra were very successful breeding and raising Holstein Friesian dairy cattle, and became widely known throughout Indiana as well as nationally. They also farmed about 500 acres while raising three sons, George K. John R., and Jack E. Stookey.
Mary and Emra were members of the Leesburg United Methodist Church and Mary also belonged to several clubs, including Kosciusko County Dairy Club, 4-H Club, and Kosciusko County Home Economics Club. After Emra died Mary moved to Noblesville where she became a member of the Noblesville United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Knitting and Quilting Club, and the Noblesville Kiwanis Club.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband Emra; two sons, John and Jack; and three brothers and their wives, Harvey (Mae), Max (Bernice), and Leo (Anabelle). She is survived by her son George (Nola); 14 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Randall & Roberts Funeral Home, 1150 Logan Street in Noblesville on Thursday, June 5 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. with a service at 3:00 p.m. There will also be an additional visitation and service at Mishler Funeral Home, 461 W 900 N, in Milford, IN on Friday, June 6, beginning with visitation from 12:00 p.m - 2:00 p.m. with a service following at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Leesburg Cemetery.
