Maura Anne Leonard, 57, of Nashville, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at Columbus Regional Health in Columbus. She was born on July 10, 1963 to Harry J. and Margaret Mary (Foltz) Pearce in Indianapolis, IN.
She was survived by her son, Berek Leonard; her daughter, Kaitlin Pearce (partner, Misty Timber); as well as several nieces, nephews & cousins.
In addition to her parents, Maura was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Anna Marie Leonard; and sisters, Melida Pearce and Milissa (Pearce) Mantz.
With proud family roots in Ludlow, KY, Maura’s life and earliest memories began in Lapel, IN. She grew up riding hundreds of miles on her bicycle while on adventures with her friends along the country roads between Lapel and Anderson. She was fond of the memories shared with dear classmates and loved growing up with small town values.
Maura was able to spend the latter part of her life as one of the most doting, proud and loving mothers anyone could have. Being a mother was her truest calling. She considered her two children, Berek and Kaitlin, to be her most fulfilling and rewarding productions. Proof of her motherly love was felt by anyone who got to know her. It was evident in the way she listened, selflessly cared, and made people feel they truly mattered.
Maura found the courage to make her dream of farm life a reality. With the unwavering support from her two children, close family and friends, and being undeterred by her life’s barrage of obstacles, she finally dove into raising yaks. To say Maura was boldly independent and phenomenally capable would have been an understatement. In addition to her avid reading and thirst for learning new things, she was ultimately happiest working around her new farm, spending time with lifelong friends and family, and reveling in her dogs’ unconditional love.
Maura was an Accounting Secretary for the C4 Columbus Area Career Connection of Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation. She thoroughly enjoyed supporting each of the teachers and wholly cherished being a part of the team. It was clear she felt appreciated, wanted, and loved.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 am on Monday, February 15, 2021 at Our Lady of Peace Mausoleum Chapel, 9001 Haverstick Road in Indianapolis, with a Covid-limited 50-person private service beginning at 1:00 pm within the chapel. Fr. Chris Wadelton will be graciously leading prayers. Maura will be laid to rest at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery following services.
The Leonard family has entrusted Randall & Roberts Funeral Homes with Maura's care. Though tough in these circumstances, the family has politely requested practicing safe social distancing and wearing masks to help protect those elderly and immunocompromised. They suggested sanitized handshakes may be the best they could do in these times.
In lieu of flowers for the service or visitation, memorial contributions in Maura’s honor may be made to South Central Newfoundland Rescue. http://www.scnewfrescue.org
