May R. Cook, 102, of Noblesville, died March 16, 2016 at Prairie Lakes Health Campus. May was born August 12, 1913 to James Vernon Redick and Rose (Ault) Redick. While she was born in Madison County she lived nearly all of her life in Hamilton County. May was descended from an Indiana pioneer family; her great-great-grandfather, George Redick, settled in Wayne Township, Hamilton County prior to 1830. May graduated from Walnut Grove High School in 1931 and took great pleasure in sharing memories of her childhood on a farm near Omega.
May married Mark W. Cook. They were the parents of Mark W. Cook, Jr., Stanley E. Cook and Stephen W. Cook. Her husband Mark died in 1960. As a widow, May decided she needed a job. She worked briefly at Riverview Hospital and was then elected to several terms as Noblesville Clerk Treasurer. Public office was a good fit. She enjoyed elective office and, it is said, was an excellent Clerk Treasurer and public official.
May was a 75 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, of which she was past Worthy Matron, and Noblesville United Methodist Church. May was also a member of the Walnut Grove Alumni Association. She was an avid fan of Noblesville and I.U. Basketball and, later, the Indianapolis Colts. May loved to travel, read, garden, cook, crochet, and spend time with her grandchildren.
May is survived by sons, Mark W. (Verona) Cook and Stephen W. (Annie) Cook; grandchildren, Sue Myose, Sandy (Bill) Lynch, S. Matthew (Lynn) Cook, and Dr. J. Craig (Amy) Cook; and great-grandsons, Eric Sears, Kevin Sears, Michael Myose, Matthew Myose, Ryan Cook, Noah Cook, John Stephen Cook, Charles Cook, Nathaniel Cook and Henry Cook. May's sister, Carolyn R. Bardonner of Arcadia, also survives.
May's family extends a heartfelt thanks to the staff at Prairie Lakes Health Campus and to Dr. Walter P. Beaver for the wonderful care and kindness extended to May.
May's funeral will be held at Randall & Roberts Funeral Home, 1150 Logan St in Noblesville at 3:00pm on Saturday, March 19, 2016, with calling from 1:00 to 3:00 prior to the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to Noblesville First United Methodist Church, Noblesville Boy Scout Troop 101, or the donor's favorite charity.
