Melvin C. Hunter, 81, Fishers, passed away Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at home. He was born December 13, 1926 in Indianapolis to John and Della (Bowman) Hunter.
Melvin had been a volunteer Fire Chief for Washington Township in 1961 and 1964. He was a water main & irrigation contractor. He was a Rainbird distributor from 1981 to 1993. He retired in 1993.
Melvin served in the Marines during WWII. He attended Christ Community Church in Fishers. He was a member of Fishers American Legion Post #470; Masonic Lodge #533 F&AM; Order of the Eastern Star North Park #404; Scottish Rite; Murat Temple; and the 500 Shrine Club. He was an avid fisherman, and loved to garden and play golf.
He is survived by his wife, Sheila Kay (Cullison) Hunter; daughter, Cheryl Lynne (Hunter) Gruber; granddaughter, Kristen Melynne Gruber; Cocoa - the granddog; brother, Raymond Hunter; sister, Mabel Hendrickson; and three children from a previous marriage.
Services will be held at 2:00PM on Saturday, November 15, 2008 at Randall & Roberts Fishers Mortuary, with Rev. Nate Pyle officiating. Friends may call Saturday from 11:00AM - 2:00PM prior to the service. Burial will be at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
