Mona Aileen (Jones) Reynolds, 89, of Noblesville, entered life eternal on July 17, 2012, following a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. She was born in South Bend, Indiana, the daughter of Bertha Romine and Clifton Jones, and grew up in the South Bend and Sheridan communities.
After graduation from Sheridan High School in 1941, she attended business college in Indianapolis and then became an administrative assistant. During World War II and until 1947, she was an executive secretary with Eli Lilly and Company in Indianapolis.
On May 17, 1947, she married Meredith Joe Reynolds and moved to Fishers, where the couple resided until purchasing their first farm in Noblesville in 1951. Together, they continued to increase their farmland, operating a dairy, grain and hog operation until retirement in 2002. The couple retained their farmstead but built and moved into a new house, which had been Mona's lifelong dream, the following year.
In the early 1960's, Mona was among a group of women who launched the Riverview Hospital chaplains' assistants program, in which she served as a volunteer for more than 40 years, and for which she received the WRTV Leadership Award. She was a 50-year member of the Noblesville First Christian Church, where she taught Sunday School classes for several years and volunteered in various other capacities.
A loving and supportive wife and mother, and a doting grandmother, Mona took pride in her homemaking skills. In addition to being an outstanding cook, she enjoyed growing a substantial garden every summer, canning and freezing copious amounts of fruits and vegetables for her family. The roses, peonies, lilacs and other flowers in her gardens and the floral arrangements she received as gifts were a source of genuine pleasure. She enjoyed traveling both domestically and internationally with her husband and kept a detailed journal of their travels. Mona was an expert yeast bread baker: she created a tradition of sending Christmas breads to her children's elementary school teachers; baked dozens of cinnamon rolls and dinner rolls for church functions, family gatherings and as gifts for friends; and when she was no longer able to cook, she taught her care givers how to bake breads.
Mona was pre-deceased by her parents; her stepfather, Alex Pollack; her brother, Gail Jones; and a son-in-law, Charles 'Chip' Porter.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Meredith Joe Reynolds of Noblesville; children, Nancy Reynolds Porter of Indianapolis, Donna L. Reynolds (David P. Whitman) of Carmel, Jerel G. Reynolds (Julia Stephanus) of Basking Ridge, New Jersey, and Brian J. Reynolds (Margie) of Chelsea, Michigan; grandchildren, Eric Porter of Indianapolis, Meredith Reynolds and Lauren Reynolds, both of Chicago, and Kelsey Reynolds of Basking Ridge; step-grandsons, John P. Whitman of Carmel and Christopher J. Whitman of New York; and cousins.
The family wishes to express its heartfelt gratitude to those from Huser Homecare who lovingly and thoughtfully cared for Mona at home over the past 18 months.
