Nancy Cheesman Baetzhold, 85, passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2011 in her Indianapolis home after a short battle with ovarian cancer. She was born March 29, 1926 in Providence, Rhode Island to John K. and Florence M. Cheesman.
After graduating from Middlebury College, she worked at Brown University where she met her husband, Howard G. Baetzhold, and began their beautiful 60-year marriage. They moved to Indianapolis in 1953 where they created a wonderful home for their family.
Nancy was the loving mother of Howard K. Baetzhold (Sandy) and Barbara M. Baetzhold (Brad Drake).Always open to new experiences, Nancy was a tireless volunteer and supported her family's interests and activities. She was an active member of the Butler University community throughout her husband's tenure as a professor in the English Department. She also enjoyed a long and happy association with Indianapolis Opera as a member and leader of the Indianapolis Opera Guild.
Nancy thought of others first and treated everyone she met with kindness and respect. She was an elegant, creative and charming woman who had a great sense of humor, sense of style and sense of self.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2011 at 7:00PM at the Basile Opera Center, 4011 N. Pennsylvania, Indianapolis. A reception will immediately follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be to Middlebury College in Vermont and Indianapolis Opera.
