Orvamae Zimmerman (Garrett) Swartz, 77, Empire, AL passed away Saturday, January 3, 2009 at St. Vincent Hospital in Birmingham, AL. She was born May 12, 1931 in Elwood, Indiana to Clifford Garrett and Olive Garrett (Cunningham) Starr.
Orvamae's employment included being Registrar for the Conner Prairie Settlement in Noblesville from 1968-1974; a real estate agent for Layton Real Estate in Noblesville from 1975-1980; Registrar for the Alabama Mining Museum from 1981-1984; a research assistant for Southern Research Institute in Birmingham, AL from 1985-1989; and bookkeeper for General Welding in Birmingham, AL from 1990-1994.
She had been a past Worthy Matron of the Westfield Order of the Eastern Star; a member of the Indiana Historical Society; and member of the Noblesville chapter of Business & Professional Women. She enjoyed playing with her grandsons, geneology, Indiana history, Alabama history, gardening, and birdwatching.
She is survived by her husband, Fredrick 'Fred' Swartz of Empire, AL; son, D. Allen (Carol) Zimmerman of Thorntown, IN; daughter, Cathie S. Zimmerman of Accokeek, MD; daughter, Caryn L (Jim) Lance of Anderson, SC; grandsons, Joshua West, Isaac West, Caleb West, Daniel Lance, & Zech Lance; two nephews & one niece; and former husband, David P. Zimmerman of Noblesville.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by step-father, William Starr; step-mother, Olive Garrett; sister, Patricia Garrett Dailey; and daughter-in-law, Micki L. Zimmerman.
Services will be held at 1:00PM on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at Randall & Roberts Funeral Home in Noblesville, with David Durran officiating. A visitation will be held beginning at 12:00PM, prior to the service. A private burial will be held at Cox Cemetery in Thorntown, IN.
There will also be a memorial service held at Warrior Assembly of God, 100 Bivens Street, Warrior, Alabama on Saturday, January 17, 2009 at 2:00PM.
