Orville Gilbert Snow Jr., or Butch as he was known to his family and friends, passed away on Tuesday, December 26, 2023 at IU Health University Hospital in Indianapolis following a short illness. He was the first child born to Orville Sr. and Alma (Benge) Snow in Noblesville Indiana on September 3, 1953.
Butch graduated from Hamilton Southeastern, and at 17 years old in June of 1971 he joined the United States Army, proudly serving with the 82nd Airborne Division and holding the rank of Sargent. (AATW!) Not long after, he married the love of his life, Nancy Anne Statzer and they moved to Germany while he served his country. After coming home, he went to work as a machinist and eventually retired from Rolls Royce/GM.
As his (3) kids came along, he enjoyed coaching their softball and baseball teams, and was also a boy scout leader. Butch was a history buff and a big Civil War enthusiast. He loved traveling all over the U.S., camping and taking great pictures along the way.
Butch loved sports, always rooting for the Hoosiers, the Reds and the Colts, but his bigger love was music. Dylan, Fogerty, Prine, Mellencamp, Petty, Stones, Joplin, Young – he loved them all, and most likely got to see them all in concert too!!
Butch leaves behind his son, Kevin Lee; daughters, Hannah (Kevin) Stoops and Haley (Christopher) Snow; significant other, Marcia McCord and her grandson, Brandon (his special buddy); sisters, Sharon Carter, Amy (Bruce) Thompson, Melissa (Steven) Keller and Angela (Norman) Snow; along with several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nance Anne Snow; brother, Kevin Lee Snow; brothers-in-law, Bobby and Mick Statzer; and great-nephew, baby Dwight Carter.
Viewing will be held at Randall & Roberts Funeral Home, 1150 Logan Street in Noblesville from 5-7pm on Tuesday, January 2nd, 2024. Services will be held on Wednesday, January 3rd at Cyntheanne Christian Church, 13151 Cyntheanne Road in Fishers at noon with viewing beginning at 11am prior to services. Burial will be at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Indianapolis.
On March 11, Butch climbed the 49 floors of the Sales Force Town (formerly Chase) in Indianapolis for the Fight For Air Climb in memory of his wife, Nancy. In honor of that, memorial contributions can be made to the American Lung Association (https://www.lung.org), or the Gettysburg Battlefield Preservation Association (https://www.gbpa.org).
