Patrick A. Cotner

Patrick A. Cotner (age 68) of Central, Indiana, passed away on November 5, 2023, surrounded by his children.  He fought his battle against pancreatic cancer for two long years.  Patrick, fondly known as Pat, was born to the late Samuel and Marlene Cotner of Bloomington, Indiana on June 8, 1955.  Pat graduated from Bloomington North High School and attended Indiana University.  He maintained a career for the Chemical Materials Agency (CMA) of the Department of the Army.  He enjoyed spending his free time collecting and polishing rocks, crystals, and fossils - many from the western and midwestern regions of the United States.  Pat enjoyed traveling the country to attend different rock and gem shows, would patiently instruct his grandchildren, great-nieces and -nephews about the origin, color and history of individual rocks, and often gifted the cool things he would find.

Pat was the father to 3 children:  Bart Cotner (girlfriend Laurissa Shields) of Bloomington, IN; Hannah Webster (boyfriend Jay Wells) of Indianapolis, IN; and Allison (Billy) Whitehouse of Roanoke, VA.  The lights of his life were grandchildren: Brooklynn and Bryson Cotner of Bloomington, IN; Zachary and Alexis Braughton, Owen Webster, Jaxon Wells of Indianapolis, IN and Jonathan “Jack” Whitehouse of Roanoke, VA. “Side by side or miles apart, grandchildren are always close to the heart.” (author unknown)

Pat is survived by his brothers and their wives, Stephen (Karen) and John (Paula) Cotner and sister, Rebecca (Mike) Williams.  Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a date to be determined.

Sincere thank yous are extended to: the therapy staff and nursing staff at Carmel Health & Living Communities - special appreciation to nurses Cathy, Byron, Joseph, Lacy, Keisha, and Jeremy; and to Traditions Hospice - nurses Shirley, Michelle, Dawn, and Rhiannon.
