Philip M. Paligraf, 55, of Fishers, passed away on July 27, 2013, in Crawfordsville, Indiana. He was born on March 3, 1958 to Martin and Jane Paligraf of Crawfordsville. His father predeceased him.
In addition to his mother, Jane, his wife, Meg, children, Patrick, Maurissa, and Mathew, and his sister, Cindi Koplow, survives him.
Phil graduated from Butler University in 1981 and was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. He began his career in advertising for WTTV Channel 4 and advanced his career to senior management. Phil ultimately became Vice President, Central Region of Comcast Spotlight where he became, according to his bride, a" big shot." In reality, Phil would consider himself a regular guy from Crawfordsville, but that is just the way he was.
Phil was a mentor, friend and built positive relationships with employees and customers. Phil had a rare and genuine approach to selling. You did not want to be on the receiving end of a negotiation with Phil, he loved to negotiate and was a good at it. You knew you were going to lose to Phil in the end.
Phil's nickname is" Dobbs. He was also known as "dreamy eyes" in high school and to this day had a twinkle in his eye if you mentioned it. Dobbs was an amazing husband, father and all-around athlete.
He met his bride, Meg, at Butler and never looked for anyone else. Dobbs and Meg have been together for 34 year and have been married for 25 years. They had a love, respect, and devotion for one another that very few people ever get the privilege to experience. When either of them entered a room, the other's face would light up. They were truly remarkable. Meg was the love of his life and vice versa. No one has been loved more than Phil; Meg always said, "I just love being with him."
Dobbs and Meg have three amazing children. Phil was a basketball and baseball coach for each of his boys and brought a passion to the game that was inspiring and infectious. Patrick and Mathew are the great boys that they are because Phil was so incredibly devoted to them. Maurissa was "daddy's little girl" and Phil loved her and supported her in her sports of volleyball and cross-country. Dobbs supported all three children's academic achievements. Dobbs and Meg were active members of the Cathedral and Xavier families.
Dobbs also loved hunting, a passion passed down from his father. During the day he would go home and you would find him in a business suit where he had climbed up a tree shooting a target with his bow and arrow, this was a common occurrence.
Here is a perfect example of Dobbs: back in the day of land lines and answering machine, Dobbs left a message that said, "Hi, you've reached the Paligrafs, leave a message and we'll call you back If I could impart some words of wisdom, the corn is commencing to hang so you might want to break out your sweaters and your light wraps."
Dobbs was a man's man with his love of family, athletics, and the outdoors. He also had a softer side and would help anyone in need. Dobbs lived life to the fullest; he worked hard and played hard, but always found time for laughter and the bright side.
For those who loved him, our lights will be dimmed for some time. In time, his spirit will illuminate within us and we will smile remembering the wonderful, funny, and spirited man we were so fortunate to have known.
Services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, August 1, 2013, at Saint Simon the Apostle Catholic Church, 8155 Oaklandon Rd, Indianapolis, IN 46236, with Father Bob Sims officiating.
