Phyllis Louise Church, 89, of Indianapolis and Ft. Myers, Florida, passed away on September 11th, 2016.
Phyllis was born on March 2, 1927 to Paul and Gertrude (Thurston) DuPouy of Summitville, Indiana, and earned a B.S. Degree from Indiana University in Bloomington, where she was member of the Delta Zeta sorority.
She began her career as a kindergarten teacher in Indianapolis in 1949, the first year that the then-controversial concept of kindergarten was introduced into the Indianapolis Public School System. She subsequently moved to Noblesville with her husband, Manson Church, where she continued teaching grade school and he became a partner in the law firm that is currently known as Church Church Hittle & Antrim.
Phyllis gave up her teaching career to raise a family, but remained active in a wide variety of civic organizations, including the Tri-Kappa Sorority, the Riverview Hospital Auxiliary (where she served as President for two years) and Cancer Services of Indiana (where she was a member of the board), as well as the Noblesville First United Methodist Church (where she was both an active member and Sunday School teacher), among a variety of other community-based endeavors. In addition, she enjoyed playing bridge with a trio of local clubs, including her long-time Noblesville club which started over fifty years ago.
Phyllis is survived by her sons, David Church of Los Angeles, California and Daniel Church of Fishers; and her grandson, Grant Church of Indianapolis. She is predeceased by her husband, Manson Church. She is also survived by her brother, John E. DuPouy of Kokomo; and is predeceased by her brother, Eugene DuPouy.
Services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at Noblesville First United Methodist Church, 2051 Monument Street in Noblesville, with visitation from 10:30 am to the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Noblesville First United Methodist Church, 2051 Monument Street, Noblesville, IN 46060.
