Raymond C. Gugel, 85, of Noblesville, passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2013 at Prairie Lakes Health Campus in Noblesville. He was born May 19, 1928 to Raymond and Rosalie (Collins) Gugel in Cleveland, Ohio. Soon after, the family relocated to Rochester, New York where Ray spent his youth. His parents and brother Jack (Jacques) Gugel, precede him in death.
Ray was a graduate of St. Francis Seminary in Loretto, Pennsylvania with an MA in theology and later earned an MA in Guidance & Counseling from Ohio State University. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy, and also served as a volunteer Chaplain at Mt. Carmel East Hospital in Columbus, Ohio for 10 years. He worked as a teacher, guidance counselor, and administrator for Columbus, Ohio Public Schools from 1966 until he retired in 1996. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America in Licking County, Ohio from 1976 to 2006 and was a member of the American Legion Post 430 in Bexley, Ohio (color guard). Raymond was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, in Noblesville.
He is survived by wife Virginia Gugel; son Mark (Jennifer) Gugel; daughter Rachel Gugel; sisters-in-law Mary Goebbel and Helen Gugel; and six grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, December 16, 2013, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 9900 East 191st Street, in Noblesville, with visitation beginning at 10:00 am until the time of service. Rev. Tom Metzger will officiate.
