Rebecca "Becky" (Smith) Skaggs Lewis

November 6, 1955 — April 24, 2021

Rebecca "Becky" (Smith) Skaggs Lewis

Mrs. Rebecca “Becky” Lewis of Noblesville, Indiana went to join her heavenly father on April 24, 2021 peacefully surrounded by her family and her faithful dog, Bruiser, after a long and valiant battle with cancer.  She was born on November 6, 1955 to the late Meuris M. and Sara F. “Sally” Smith in Frankfort, Indiana.

During her school years in Frankfort, Becky was active in the performing arts:  dancing, singing, and playing the piano, flute, or clarinet. In 1973 she won the Indiana Junior Miss pageant for Clinton county, and in the State pageant, placed in the top five and was selected for the poise award by the judges.   During her adult life, her love of music continued through playing the piano.

After graduation from Frankfort High School, Becky attended Ball State University earning her Bachelor and Masters’ degrees in counseling, and then Indiana Wesleyan University where she earned her MBA.

While at Ball State University, Becky was the Vice-President of her sorority, Tri Sigma, and a member of the Ball State singers and dancers.  One of her many memories of attending Ball State was the 1972 Singers tour of military bases in Iceland, Greenland, Labrador, and Newfoundland, upon invitation by the USO.

After college, Becky worked in the health care profession, overseeing over 65 assisted living and nursing homes and hospices located in multiple states.  Becky was also part of a group from Indiana that lobbied Congress for additional federal funds for senior health care and facilities.  She was a strong advocate for the continuing improvement of any endeavor she touched.

In the early 1980s, Becky left her health care career to help establish the family business, Skaggs Insurance Agency, now in its second generation of family ownership, and to become a stay-at-home mother to her sons, Ryan and Andrew.  Her best memories were the many family vacations.  She later worked at Methodist Hospital as a counselor for the intake unit for substance abuse patients.

Whether it be in a social or professional environment or as a patient receiving her cancer treatments, Becky always put others first. No matter how good or bad she felt, Becky was there for you with an empathetic ear or a well-timed joke.   Becky had the unique ability to walk into a room with total strangers but leave minutes later knowing the stories of their lives.   She touched many lives with her genuine interest in others and her genuine good will.

She is survived by her loving husband, Greg Lewis; sons, Ryan (Heather) Skaggs of Bloomington, IN, and Andrew (Jenny) Skaggs and her granddaughter Hallie of Noblesville, IN; brother, David Smith (Julie) of North Fort Myers, Florida; nephew, Casey (Megan) Smith and their daughters Madeline and Sadie of Austin, TX; step-daughter, Cynda (Mike) Sims of Chickamauga, GA; and step-grandchildren, Jennefer (Bill) Smart of Portland, TN, and Cody (Kristin) Sims and her great-grandson Lucas of San Antonio, TX.

A memorial visitation will be held from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Sunday, May 2, 2021 at Randall & Roberts Funeral Center, 1685 Westfield Rd, in Noblesville.  Interment will follow at a later date in Marion National Cemetery, Marion, IN for family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 11550 North Meridian Street, Carmel, IN 46032.
