Richard C. Holman, 86, Noblesville, passed away Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at home, with his loving family at his side - especially his great-grandson, Kaleb Rutherford, who has been a joy for the past 3 1/2 years. He was born February 27, 1924 in Rushville, Indiana to Joseph and Nancy (Estes) Holman.
Richard was a retired Indianapolis firefighter, and had also retired from  Methodist Memorial Hospital, where many people knew and loved him. He was a WWII US Army veteran, and a member of the Cicero VFW, where he served faithfully for many years as Sgt. of Arms. He was the head of the Division and enjoyed this responsibility immensly. He was also a lifetime member of the American Legion.
He is survived by sons, Richard C. (Tammy) Holman Jr. of Noblesville, Joseph (Pam) Holman of Indianapolis and Doug (Suzy) Holman of Indianapolis; daughter, Theresa (LeRoy) Craytor of North Carolina; brother, Bill Vedder; niece, Susie (Denny) Bell; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two step-grandchildren, Robert & Melissa Rutherford, who, over the last few years, he loved and cherished as his own. He was also blessed to have a very loving housekeeper & helper, Nikki Marcial-Ottinger, by his side during his last days.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Jane F. Holman in 2008.
Services will be held at 12:00PM on Thursday, August 12, 2010 at Randall & Roberts Funeral Home, 1150 Logan Street, in Noblesville, with Pastor Ron Stephens officiating. Friends may call Thursday, beginning at 10:00AM prior to the service. Burial will be at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Indianapolis.
The family feels very blessed to have had Vista-Care Hospice taking such wonderful and compassionate care of Richard.
