Richard (Dick) Koesters died peacefully on Friday January 14, 2011 at St. Vincent-Carmel Hospital surrounded by family, after a long and courageous battle with Multiple Sclerosis and its complications. He was born in Indianapolis on May 30, 1939 to the late Albert and Emma (Roth) Koesters.
Dick was a 1957 graduate of Scecina High School and graduated from Xavier University in 1962. He served in the United States Army and then began his career as an accountant at GM Truck and Bus in Indianapolis. He retired in 1992 after 30 years. After retiring, Dick was a tax preparer to many loyal customers until 2010. Dick was an avid golfer (with 3 holes in one); he enjoyed his Tuesday Poker Club, was an active member and volunteer for his church, Our Lady of Grace. He was a coach for the Warren Little League, and loved to cheer on the Xavier, Butler, and Notre Dame sports teams.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Carolyn Farrell, and grandchild, Benjamin Kump. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, JoAnn Greve Koesters; a sister, Barbara Farrell; and children Rick (Jodi) Koesters, Ginny (Tom) Hall, Mary (Jim) Bradley, Jeff (Lesli) Greve, Jeanne (Eric) Hiatt, Anne (David) Bond, Cathy (Terry Riccio) Greve, Susan Kump, and Nancy (Wally) Greve-Shannon; grandchildren: Brandon, Nick, and Jon Hall, Emily and Erica Koesters, Mary Claire and Caroline Bradley, Madison and Rachel Kump, Anna and Ryan Landry, and Erin and Sarah Shannon, Rick Keuhne and Pam Keuhne Sothman, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Dick is also survived by his first wife, Mary Anne (John) Lutz of Noblesville, and extended family in Colorado, Missouri, Texas, and Wyoming.
The family would like to express deep gratitude to the staff at St. Vincent Carmel Hospital, especially the Third Floor and ICU staff, for their kindness and compassion toward Dick and his family. The therapists and other staff from Gentiva provided exceptional care to Dick when he was able to be at home.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Noblesville, IN on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at 10:00AM. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 18 from 4:00PM-8:00PM, also at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, with a Vigil Service which will begin at 7:30PM
We will miss Dick's positive outlook and sense of humor, but know he is resting peacefully in God's loving care. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (www.nationalmssociety.org).
