Robert Wesley Turrel, age 81, of Indianapolis, IN, died September 27, 2014. He was born in Detroit, Michigan, May 25, 1933 to Howard and Millicent Turrel.
A graduate of Roseville High School, Bob enlisted in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and was granted an Honorable Discharge in 1954. While working as an architectural designer for General Motors, Robert enrolled at Lawrence Institute of Technology and completed his baccalaureate degree in Architecture. Further employment at Ford Motor Company afforded him the opportunity to design numerous building projects in the US and abroad. His design talents continued to serve careers with Herman Miller Furniture and lastly, Arvin Manufacturing in Columbus, IN, from where he retired in 1999.
Bob enjoyed fishing, small game hunting and traveling. He generously offered his design services to many people and enjoyed decorating his own homes. Traveling with his daughter and family was one of Bob's pleasures, having the opportunity to see his grandsons grow and develop.
Robert was a person of strong Christian faith, and throughout his adult life served his church in a number of leadership positions. He was active as an adult Sunday School teacher at Indian Creek Christian Church, of which he was a member during his retirement years. Bob also served on the board of directors of his condo association, and was president of the same organization.
Family and friends would state that Bob was a very generous man, loved children and family, and lived his faith.
Robert is survived by his two brothers, Howard (Susan) of Grove, OK, and David (Brigitte) of Algonac, MI; daughter, Judith (Michael) Kidd of Fishers, IN; grandsons, Andrew (Kristen) of Franklin, IN, and John of Fishers, IN; nephews Dan (Janet) of Grove, OK, Greg (Kim) of Texas, and Mark of Tulsa, OK; nieces Myra of Windsor, ON, Canada, Alicia (Sam) Tracy of Grove, OK, Caryn (Jeff Kabzinski) Turrel of Greenwood, IN, and Stephanie Pegg of Port Huron, MI; and numerous cousins, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Services will be held at Noon on Saturday, October 4, 2014, at Randall & Roberts Fishers Mortuary, 12010 Allisonville Road, in Fishers, with visitation from 10:00 am to the time of service. Pastor Jason Yeatts will officiate. Burial will be at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Indianapolis.
