Rolland R. "Whitey" Guenin

After a valiant struggle with cancer, Rolland R. "Whitey" Guenin, age 83, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Monday, June 27, 2016.
Whitey was born in South Bend to Celesta and Rolland Guenin. He attended St. Joan of Arc, Cathedral and Tech High Schools, and was a veteran the Korean War. He worked for many years at Cyclone Fence and also was a manager of the Coliseum at the State Fair Grounds.
Whitey was a driven professional with a passion for ice hockey. He played hockey for the Indianapolis Warriors, His love of hockey led him to open the Carmel Ice Skadium in 1974, where he served as an owner/manager/coach until 2002 when he retired. He was active in youth hockey and instilled in many youths a love for the sport. He will be remembered as an inspiration to all that knew him. In November of 2013, "Whitey's Pond", a new outdoor skating rink named in honor of Whitey, was opened in Laurel, MD by a former associate from the Skadium.
Whitey is survived by his brother, Gene and sister-in-law Dee Guenin; three nephews, Pat, Paul, and Darrell Guenin; his niece, Beth Bergman; and many other family members. He is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Betty Kocher; and beloved dog, Bud.
Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, July 1, 2016 at Randall & Roberts Fishers Mortuary, 12010 Allisonville Road, in Fishers. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at St. Louis de Montfort Catholic Church, 11441 Hague Road in Fishers, with visitation 1 hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, 9001 Haverstick Rd, Indianapolis, with a reception at St. Louis De Montfort to follow interment; all are welcome.
