Ron Grabb

Ron Grabb (formerly of Marietta, GA and Decatur, IL) placed his hand in God's and passed over on June 14, 2014 at 67 years of age. Ron was born April 17, 1947, in Decatur, IL, the son of Loren "Doc" and Carmen "Boots" Grabb. His parents preceded him in death. Ron was a graduate of Eisenhower High School (Decatur, IL) and the University of Illinois.
He is survived by his daughter, Nikole Grabb (Marietta, GA), brother, Larry (Tamela) Grabb (Noblesville, IN), and nieces and nephews Lindsey Carter, Ashlyn Carter and William Grabb (all of Noblesville, IN), and Michael Arnold (Denver, CO).
Ron was a proud US Army veteran of the Viet Nam era. He served his country as an officer in the Field Artillery in (then) West Germany from 1970-1971.
Ron had a great love for family. His daughter, Nikole, was truly the "apple" of his eye. He was known to readily share his talents in remodeling and video wherever needed. Singing was a special love. As a "young man", Ron toured Europe with the High School Choir of America, as well as (later) with the University of Illinois Varsity Men's Glee Club. He continued singing throughout his life - often joining his brother, Larry, and good friend Dick Allan in entertaining friends and unsuspecting acquaintances with songs from the folk era of the 1960's. Ron also had a certain "adventuresome" streak in him and was usually ready to try about anything. As a boy of about 10, he was asked by a neighbor if he could perform a certain task. Without batting an eye, Ron's response was, "I don't know. I haven't tried that yet". He maintained that optimism throughout his life.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1:30PM Thursday, June 19th at Marrowbone Cemetery, Bethany, IL. An informal gathering to celebrate Ron's life will take place following the service at The Main Hangar Restaurant, 910 S. Airport Road, Decatur, IL 62521. Anecdotes about Ron are welcome to be shared at this time.
In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made in the interest of severely brain-injured young people to The Elysian Foundation, c/o Harris Bank, 107 Logan St., Noblesville, IN 46060.
