Russell E. Elder

Russell E. Elder, 90, of Noblesville, passed away on Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at Riverview Hospital in Noblesville. He was born on December 15, 1921 to Carl and Lou Eva (Beck) Elder in Palestine, IL.
Russell retired in 1969 after 20 years as a tool & die maker for the Naval Avionics Facility. He had previously worked for Allison Transmission; had worked in the Safety Patrol Division at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for 37 years; and also had been a photographer for Speed Sport News for 30 years. He was World War II infantry veteran, where he was awarded a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart after being wounded in battle during the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of the F&AM Masonic Lodge No. 715 Englewood in Indianapolis and Sahara Grotto; Noblesville American Legion Post #45; Noblesville VFW; the Old Timers Club; and had been the Grand Marshall of the VFW Loyalty Day parade in 2009.
He is survived by two daughters: Linda Lee Elder (Lewis) McQueen of New Palestine, and Terry Jeanne Elder (Tom Bannon) Yount of Noblesville; four grandchildren: Rebecca Lynne Roberts Hines, Carrie Jane Roberts Simmons, Mark Andrew Roberts, and Melissa Lee McQueen Borum; eight great-grandchildren; plus his pet Shih Tzu, "Buddy".
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Waneta Cornett Elder on March 1, 2011.
Services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, March 24, 2012, at Randall & Roberts Funeral Center, 1685 Westfield Road, in Noblesville, with Chaplain Derek Hansen officiating. Visitation will be Friday, March 23, 2012 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be at Crownland Cemetery in Noblesville.
