Ruth Joan Rentsch Nelson, died at St. Vincent hospital on June 24, 2011. Born Ruth Joan Rentsch on November 24, 1923 in Indianapolis, she was the daughter of J. Arthur Rentsch, a home builder, and Victoria H. Rentsch.
She attended Pike High School and Purdue University, and was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. She received a degree in Industrial Engineering and was one of two women in the engineering graduating class of 1944. Her love and support of Purdue and its sports teams remained with her throughout her life. In 1948, she married Dean B. Nelson and had three children. She and her husband owned and ran a newspaper in Albert City, IA and one in Narrows, VA before returning to Indianapolis to raise her family. An avid golfer and bridge player, she made homemaking an art, but she also loved to read and travel. In her later years, she enjoyed spending her winters on Marco Island, FL and her summers in Noblesville with her loving friends and family.
She leaves behind her husband, Dean; her children, Rae Lembersky (Mark), Pam Storen (Mark), Dean Nelson Jr. (Kristen); and her five grandchildren, Lindsay Harris (Josh), Drew Storen, Sarah, Grant, & Patrick Nelson.
Visitation will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, June 27, at St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Noblesville followed by the service at noon.
