Ruth M. (Williamson) O'Rear, 98, Noblesville (and Arlington, OH), passed away on Friday, March 25, 2011. She was the second child of seven children, born December 29, 1912 in Morgan County, IN to the late Clarel Alta and Mable A. (Brown) Williamson.
She married the late Bernard F. O'Rear at Paris, IL on January 16, 1931. They enjoyed 54 years together until his death on August 5, 1985.
Mrs. O'Rear is survived by her children: James R. (Julianne J.) O'Rear of Arlington, OH and Norman L. O'Rear of Indianapolis; grandchildren: Kevin L. (Paula) & Michael R. of Findlay, OH, Brent A. (Amy) of Arlington, OH, Bruce S. of Jenera, OH, Linda (Jeff) Cole & Myra Van Atta of Mt. Blanchard, OH, Jennifer L. (Joe) Kosar of Olmsted Falls, OH, Robert Kiritis, Debra Kirchenbauer & Terry J. O'Rear of Indianapolis, Karen King of Lapel, IN, Teresa O'Rear of Westfield, IN, N. Alan of Indianapolis, IN, Sherry Townsend of Tipton, IN; 25 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Donald L. (Benita) of Fillmore, IN.
She was preceded in death by a son, G. Wayne; brothers, Earl E., Kenneth (Betty) & Morris A. (Juanita); and sisters, Mary H. Kesler & Ester A. Ridgway.
Ruth graduated from Stilesville (IN) High School as an Honor Society student and continued her education at DePauw University in Greencastle, studying music. She was a den mother; president of the P.T.O. 3rd Ward Grade School; member of the First Christian Church adult choir; organized and directed the youth choir; and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Noblesville. She was a volunteer with Meals-On-Wheels and Riverview Hospital; and an associate life-member of Delta Sigma Kappa.
Since 1946, until her 1973 retirement, Mrs. O'Rear was with the Noblesville Post Office serving in different capacities. In April 1971 she became the first woman assistant postmaster and earned the position on the merits of a qualification examination.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday March 29 from 5-7pm at Randall & Roberts Funeral Home, 1150 Logan St in Noblesville. Services will be held at 7pm on Tuesday March 29 at the funeral home. Interment and committal services will be held at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Indianapolis, at a later date.
