Staff Sergeant Matthew Ryan Ammerman, 29, of Noblesville, passed away on December 3, 2014 while conducting operations in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in the Zabul Province of Afghanistan, he was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida.
Matthew was born at Riverview Hospital on June 17, 1985 in Noblesville. Matthew was raised in Noblesville area. As a teen Matthew enjoyed many hobbies and excelled at playing the violin.
Matthew joined the United States Army in July of 2004. He attended basic training, advanced individual training, and the United States Army Airborne School at Fort Benning, GA.
In 2006, he was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 509th Infantry Regiment at Fort Richardson, Alaska. He served in two deployments; one in 2006 to Iraq, and one in 2009 to Afghanistan. While assigned to the 3rd 509th he served as a assistant gunner, fire team leader, a squad leader.
Matthew was then stationed at Fort Stewart, GA in 2011. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 69th Armor Regiment; where he served as a senior sniper and squad leader.
In 2013, Matthew graduated as Special Forces Communication Sergeant and was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group which he deployed with to Afghanistan in 2014 as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Matthew was a decorated soldier, and was awarded multiple medals throughout his military career.
He is survived by his loving wife, loving family, and fellow service members; who will continue to honor him every day.
The service to honor Matthew will be conducted on December 17, 2014 at Randall and Roberts Funeral Center, 1685 Westfield Road in Noblesville.
