Stephen Joe DeHart, 69, of Fishers, passed away on Sunday, September 18, 2011 at his home. He was born on December 9, 1941 to Fred and Thelma (Castor) DeHart in Noblesville, Indiana.
Stephen worked as a Postmaster for the United States Postal Service for 20 plus years, retiring in December 2003. He attended Indiana University for two years, and was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He served as Commanding Officer of Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 8th Infantry Regiment of the 4th Infantry Division, attaining the rank of Captain. He also served the U. S. Army Reserves for five years attaining the rank of Major.
Steve was a member of First Christian Church of Noblesville and attended Hazel Dell Christian Church. He was a student of the Civil War. Steve and his wife believed in "Wander the USA" trying to travel to all of the fifty states, but fell short by less than a dozen. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley (Richardson) DeHart; mother, Thelma Marie DeHart; son, Stacy John (Susan) DeHart; daughter, Jennifer (Dan) Zawadzki; sister, Susan Keithley; and step-sons: Jay (Sherry) Terrell, and Corey (Vicky) Terrell; grandchildren: Daniel Zawadzki, Grace Zawadzki, Ruby Zawadzki, Alexsandra DeHart, Catherine DeHart, and Max Terrell; plus numerous beloved family and friends.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Sandra (Jessee) DeHart, and brother-in-law, Todd Keithley.
Services will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, September 21, 2011, at Randall & Roberts Fishers Mortuary, 12010 Allisonville Road, in Fishers, with Pastor Mark Wright officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 20, 2011 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Indianapolis.
