Stephen T. Garrett

One of the greatest story tellers in the world, Stephen T. Garrett, 79, of Fishers, passed away Friday, January 2, 2015 at his home. Born March 5th, 1935 to Edward L. and Carolyn Kent Garrett in Zanesville, Oh. His parents preceded him in death, as did his step mother, Judy Garrett.
Steve grew up on Long Island, NY and in Coconut Grove, FL before graduating from Akron North High School (Akron, OH). He was a graduate of Kent State University on a wrestling scholarship and was a member of Phi Delta Theta. After graduation, Steve attended Officer Candidate School (OCS) as a Naval Aviator at Pensacola, FL attaining the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade (LTJG). Steve was a pilot during the Cuban Revolution. Steve began his career with US Gypsum as a Sales Representative in Fort Wayne, IN. Later, Steve was a partner in C & S Lathing and Plastering. Forming Terstep Company, Inc. in 1971, began the foundation of many new companies. Companies Steve influenced are too numerous to list.
Steve and Mary Patricia Miller were married in 1961. 3 children survive; Terrence (Bambi) Garrett of Noblesville, Steve Garrett Jr. of Indianapolis and Megan (Greg) Wiles of Noblesville. He was greatly loved by his grandchildren, Kyla and Kent Garrett and Garrett and Grace Wiles. February 15th, 1986 Steve and Jackie were married, they were inseparable. They traveled the world. Steve was a Slots "Champion" on multiple continents and at sea.
Steve was involved in many different pursuits and hobbies. He was invited to the US Olympic Trials as a wrestler, a drummer for the Gordon Pipers, a car collector, and an amateur road racer with SCCA and Vintage Racing. Steve raced for over 35 years at IRP, Mid-Ohio, Road America, east coast tracks and as far away as New Zealand. Steve and his race car "Tina" Turner were featured on Fox Sports after The Vintage Grand Prix of Pittsburgh.
Faith was important to Steve. He was an altar boy in the Episcopal Church. He shared his faith and experiences with all those around him. His gregarious personality combined with his infectious laugh, Steve never met a stranger. He had a wonderful way of helping others, with his giving soul. Steve was inventive, caring and giving, a true enabler of allowing other people to achieve their potential.
Visitation will be Wednesday, January 7th from 4:00 to 7:00pm, and Thursday, January 8th from 10:00 to 11:00 am prior to the service at 11:00 am officiated by Pastor Joe Freeman. All will take place at Randall and Roberts Funeral Home, 12010 Allisonville Road, Fishers, IN 46038.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donors make memorial contributions to their favorite charity.
