Stephen Douglas Waltz

Stephen Douglas Waltz, 72, of Noblesville, passed away on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born on November 9, 1943 to Raymond and Mabel (Rafferty) Waltz in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Steve was an administrator with the Indy Parks & Recreation Association, where he had been Executive Director for Eagle Creek Park from 1980-2005, Executive Director of Indiana Parks & Recreation Association from 2006-2010 and retired in 2011 from Lester Recreation Designs. He received his undergraduate degree from Purdue, where he was a member of the rowing team; and earned his Master's degree from University of Washington. Steve was a wonderful grandfather, dad and husband who had a quick smile and a great laugh. He was very easy-going, was a hard worker and was a detailed administrator who was considerate of those who worked with him. He loved to drive his pontoon boat, and was known as 'Captain Steve'; and he also collected baseball hats. He was named the Indy Parks & Recreation Outstanding Professional of the Year, and was responsible for establishing the Eagle Creek rowing course for the 1987 Pan Am Games held in Indy.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Waltz; three daughters, Holly Walsh, Lesly (Rob) Huffman and Wendy (Lee) Ackerman; a brother, Tom Waltz; five grandchildren, Colleen & Allison Walsh, Joey & Anna Ackerman, and Cameron Huffman; and his beloved dog, Alex.
Services will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, June 26, 2016 at Randall & Roberts Funeral Center, 1685 Westfield Road in Noblesville, with visitation beginning at 1:00 pm prior to the service. Burial will be at Cicero Cemetery on Monday, at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to The Indianapolis Parks and Recreation Foundation Scholarship Fund in memory of Steve Waltz, PO Box 3906, Carmel, IN 46082; The Steve Waltz Memorial Bench c/o Lester Recreation Designs, 751 Nonchalant Ct., Greenwood, IN 46142; or the Humane Society for Hamilton County, 1721 Pleasant St, STE B, Noblesville, IN 46060.
