Sylvia Anne Elizabeth (Spencer) Wilhelm passed away at Harbour Manor in Noblesville, Indiana on February 11th at 2:45 in the afternoon. She was born in St. Helens, England to Olivia Marie (Greener) and Jack Spencer on August 1, 1941, along with her triplet brother John and sister Mary (Ascroft). She married Michael Robert Wilhelm, a US Army serviceman in 1965 and gave birth to their first child, Paul in 1969, and their twins, Michael, and Melissa (Grandstaff) in 1974.
A former resident of Logansport, Indiana, she was an avid singer and toured with the Festival of Praise in 1985 which featured gospel greats Dallas Holm, Phil Driscoll, Sandi Patti, Russ Taff and others. A favorite recent memory that she loved to recount was her trip to Washington DC for the Annual National Day of Prayer Breakfast at the invitation of former President George W. Bush as a guest of former Secretary of Transportation, Mary E. Peters. Stories of her private tour of the White House, lunch at the Navy Mess in the basement of the West Wing, and the sense of security she felt under the watchful protection of a Secret Service detail lit up her face every time she would regale you with the tale.
Although her life was full of fond memories, nothing was more important to her than her relationship with the Lord, Jesus. If she were here, she would ask you if you knew Him and would be more than willing to introduce you if you didn't. She is with Him now; safe, healthy, and whole again.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her former husband Michael, sister Julie, brother John, and nephew Michael Ascroft, whom she helped deliver into this world. She is survived by her three children, eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and her sisters Anita (Byrne) and Mary (Ascroft), and their respective families in the United Kingdom. She was 75 years old.
Two wakes are scheduled to celebrate her life. The first is set for Thursday, February 16th from 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm in the Noblesville home to which she longed to return, 6479 Angel Falls Drive. The second is on Sunday, February 19th at 1526 Grant St. in Logansport, Indiana from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm. All who knew her are invited to casually stop by to see an old friend.
