Tim Kermit Erwin Sr.

Tim Kermit Erwin Sr, 84, of Noblesville, passed away on the morning of Friday, August 19, 2016 after a 40-year battle with heart disease. He was born June 1, 1932 to the late Forrest and Hattie Erwin in Asheville, NC. He attended Woodfin High School and worked for the Asheville newspaper before entering the U.S. Army in 1953. He proudly served his country with the U.S. Army Air Force in Korea and Okinawa.
Tim retired in 1994 from Morris Machines in Indianapolis after 24 years of service. Moving to Indianapolis in 1967, he served as Sr. Vice Commander of VFW Post 98 in 1974; was a charter member of 500 Moose; and former member of American Legion Post 497. He also served as Treasurer in 1979, and four-year Board of Directors member from 1980 to 1984, of the Continental Ball Room Dance Club, and President of the Riviera Country Club Booster Board in 1988-1989. His hobbies included tennis, ballroom dancing, playing bid-Euchre, gardening, reading and watching western movies.
Local survivors include his adoring wife of more than 32 years, Karen; stepsons, Terry (Buffy) Trout and Frank (companion Susie Schrock) Gilbert; three step-grandchildren, Uriah (Katee) Trout and their son Ryder, Ryan Thomas Gilbert and Emma Gilbert; and a nephew, Richard (Brenda) Clark of Ninevah. In the Asheville, NC area, he leaves behind three children, Robert Michael Erwin, Caroline (Fred) Collins and Patty Harding Tayler Judge; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he is the youngest of his siblings, whom all precede him in death - a half-brother, five brothers and four sisters; along with his son, Tim Kermit Erwin Jr; grandson, Joshua Harding; and the mother of his children, Eva Jacqueline Arnett.
A special thank you to the staff of Wellbrooke of Westfield, North Indy Home Instead, the Indianapolis VA Hospital and the St. Vincent Care Group for the excellent care given to Tim during this long journey.
Services will be held at 5:00 pm on Monday, August 22, 2016 at Randall & Roberts Funeral Center, 1685 Westfield Road in Noblesville, with calling beginning at 4:00 pm. Dr. Richard P. Bailey will officiate. Military graveside services will be held at a later date at Green Hills Cemetery Asheville, NC, where he will be laid to rest next to his son, Tim Jr.
