W.C. 'Dick' Palmer, 90, of Fishers, passed away on April 23, 2013.
Dick was born in Gloucester, MA on August 23, 1922 to Harold and Winifred Palmer. After graduation from high school, he attended Williams College. His higher education was briefly interrupted when he enlisted in the US Navy and fought in WWII. As an officer, he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan until the end of the war. After receiving both law and geology degrees, he began a career as a landman in oil and gas exploration. His career brought him to many locations in the United States, including Oklahoma, Texas and Colorado, while ultimately settling in Michigan.
Dick met his future wife, Berta "Christine" Schmid, a native of Switzerland, while skiing there on vacation. Two years later they married on November 13, 1965; they were married 47 wonderful years.
He is survived by his wife; his daughter, Christine Lorkowski and her husband Paul; and his two grandchildren, Mitchell and Mara Lorkowski who brought him so much joy.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Louis de Montfort Catholic Church on Monday, April 29, 2013 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Patrick Click officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM prior to the service. A luncheon will take place after the service. A Graveside Service will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens at 1:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dick's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142
