William Oliveira

William Oliveira, known to his family and friends as Willy and Bill, passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at the age of 88.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 61 years, Pura Cuprill Oliveira; his daughters, Deborah (Daniel) Sheldon, Tina (Damon) Grube, and  Tammy (Mark) Maioriello; 12 grandchildren, Jared (Carly) Sheldon, Danielle (Matt) Strauser, Ian (Brittany) McMenamin, Lindsay McMenamin, Daniel Grube, Timothy Sheldon, Joshua Grube, Christa Sheldon, Jacob Grube, Mark Joseph, Nico and Mateo Maioriello; and his 5 great-grandchildren, Cotton, Milo, Spring & Tazryn Sheldon and Jagger McMenamin.

William was preceded in death by his daughter, Lisa McMenamin; his brother, Christopher Oliveira; and his mother, Delia Oliveira.

Originally from New York, William attended the State University of New York Maritime College at Fort Schuyler and graduated in 1954 with a Bachelor of Marine Engineering degree.  He served in the Navy, reaching the rank of Lieutenant Commander, as a chief submarine engineer, and was a quality assurance manager with the Navy and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

William enjoyed traveling, watching sports, loving his wife and raising his daughters in New Jersey, and telling stories.  He loved children, teaching 4th grade Sunday School for more than 25 years.  He had a fierce love for his Lord and Savior, Jesus.  William and Pura enjoyed their retirement years in Florida.

A Celebration of Life will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Somerdale, New Jersey on Friday, October 4, 2019 at 10:30 am, with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.  Burial will be at Washington Crossing National Cemetery in Newtown, Pennsylvania.

Memorial donations, in memory of William, may be made to Boys Town, 200 Flanagan Boulevard, PO Box 8000, Boys Town, NE 68010; or the Billy Graham Evangelical Association, 1 Billy Graham Parkway, Charlotte, NC 28201.
