William Joseph "Bill" Sumpter, 73, of Noblesville, passed away July, 11, 2011 at St. Vincent's Hospice in Indianapolis, IN, surrounded by family.
He was born Jan. 31, 1938, in Peru, IN. Bill graduated from Peru High School in 1956 and received a BS in Chemical Engineering from Tri-State College in 1959. Bill went to work for Goodyear in Akron, OH, before moving to Marion, IN to work at General Tire. Through his community and political activities, he transitioned into the insurance industry where he spent more than 30 years in many capacities. He provided a valuable service to local businesses, government, and consumers while enriching the lives of numerous employees. Bill finished out his career as a key member of Insurance Management Group in Marion, IN.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Christina; sons, Vincent Sumpter (wife Nancy) and Scott Mendoza; daughters, Carol Sumpter and Anna (Mendoza) Easton (husband Aaron); grandchildren, Ariel Sumpter, Audrey Sumpter, Christen Dotson, Amanda Dotson (fiance Derrick Van Dusen), and future grandson Mauro Joseph Easton.
Bill leaves behind a host of friends and colleagues from a life well-lived. As one person put it, "He's the best man I've ever known!" And most people who knew him would agree. He was a very generous soul, and in keeping with his spirit of giving, Bill donated his eyes to the Lions Eye Bank.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made out to St. Vincent Hospice, 8450 N. Payne Rd., Ste. 100, Indianapolis, IN 46268.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 14, 2011, from 4pm to 8pm at Randall & Roberts Funeral Home, 1685 Westfield Road in Noblesville. Services, officiated by Father Ray Bradley, will be held on Friday, July 15, 2011, at 10am at St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Noblesville, IN.
