William Woodward

William Merrill Woodward, beloved husband, father and brother, passed away Thursday, October 31st, 2013 at the age of 90.
He leaves behind his wife of 67 years, Mary Woodward; his daughter Lynne Woodward; his daughter Karen Tando and her husband Michael Tando; his granddaughter Courtney Reed and her husband Ryan; his grandson 1st Lieutenant Kevin Lienesch and his wife Julia. He was close to his brothers, Paul and Ned Woodward who live in Indiana.
Formerly of Noblesville, Bill, was born an Indiana farm boy, and moved to Seattle 45 years ago after retiring as a Captain from 20 years with the USAF. He served in Burma during WW11, was called back into service during the Korean War and was awarded the Bronze Star for his extraordinary work on Kume Island. Our family went on many memorable car trips as we moved with him between the radar bases he commanded all over the United States and Australia. He travelled the globe doing classified work for the USAF during the 'Cold War'. After retiring from the military, Bill moved to Seattle into a second career as the Manager of the Housing and Zoning Enforcement Division for the City until 1985.
Dad was a 'homebody', building, fixing, spending time with us, caring for his grandchildren or relaxing with a book in his favorite chair. No matter where we travelled or what we endured through life, Dad was our kind, loving father and husband; our steadfast supporter; the intelligent, reasonable guide in our world; the unselfish, generous center of our little universe.
