Wilma Jean Myers Wampler, 86, of Fishers passed away on April 29, 2009. She was born was born May 9, 1922 in Davies County, IN to the late Ohmer and Lora (Wallace) Myers.
Wilma became a registered nurse at Methodist Hospital's School of Nursing in 1945. She was a nurse at Allison Division of GMC in Indianapolis, where she met her future husband, Willard Wampler Jr. They married on January 17, 1953.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Noblesville; and a lifetime member of the Eastern Star and Southport Homemakers Association. She always looked forward to her annual nursing school reunion lunch.
Wilma and her husband spent many years after retirement traveling to Florida for the winter. An avid reader, card player and craftswoman (quilting was one of her specialties), she always kept her mind and hands active. She was always the first to offer help and comfort to a neighbor, friend or family member.
One of the highlights of her later years was a trip to Alaska in 2002, at age 80, to see her eldest niece, Kay Myers, a longtime resident of Anchorage. She loved to travel and the family spent three weeks every summer traveling to destinations throughout the United States and Canada. As a young woman, she and a friend from nursing school (Mildred Rantz) enjoyed a memorable trip to Cuba.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Willard Wampler Jr; children Leta Engels (husb. Russ) of Greencastle, IN, Susan Wampler (husb Stan Wedeking) of Los Angeles, CA, and William Wampler of Cicero, IN; and grandchildren Andrew Engels, Annie Engels, Rachael Wampler and Max Wampler.
