W.S. 'Rip' VanWinkle, 77, of Noblesville, passed away on Monday, April 7, 2014 at Sheridan Healthcare Center in Sheridan. He was born on March 17, 1937 to Gathor and Lessie (Hughes) VanWinkle in Newark, Arkansas.
Rip worked for the McMahon family for over 40 years and proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He loved hunting and fishing, and enjoyed riding his bicycle. He was an avid baseball fan, and was known all over Noblesville for his ability to bake cookies.
He is survived by his loving wife, Gwen VanWinkle; children, Jeffrey VanWinkle, Suzette Wilson, Annette VanWinkle, Becky Robison, Shanne Sears, and Tom Edens; special friend, Betty VanWinkle; grandchildren, Jennifer VanWinkle, Evan & Kelley Wiley, Hayley Edens, Payton Bailey, and Austin Edens; brother, Bobby VanWinkle; sisters, Clara Ehman, Francis McCracken, and Bess Ely; several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Sherman VanWinkle; brothers, Lloyd & Billy VanWinkle; sisters, Lois Stevens, Mildred Cawvey, and Buhton Simpson.
Services will be held at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at Randall & Roberts Funeral Home, 1150 Logan Street, in Noblesville, with visitation beginning at 4:00 pm until the time of service. Pastor Neal Brown will officiate.
