Obituary of Susan Westrum

Susan Sarah Westrum, 78, of Fishers, passed away on Sunday, August 19, 2018 at her home.  She was born on November 16, 1939 in Joliet, Illinois.

Susan completed 15 years of education, graduating with a diploma in nursing from St. Barnabas Hospital School of Nursing.  She worked as a registered nurse, and then became a flight attendant for 3 years.  She then served for over 40 years, as a missionary with Wycliffe, translating the New Testamant into the Berik language where her nursing and flying experience became great assets.  She was a member of First Baptist Church of Branson, Missouri, and enjoyed playing piano, traveling, and visiting with family.  Sue was the author of "The Best Life: A City Girl Thrives In The Jungle", which records how living God's purpose for your life leads to experiencing peace and true joy.  She was a pioneer, nurse, linguist, wife, mother and grandmother.

Susan is survived by her husband of 50 years, Peter N. Westrum; children, David (Tanya) Westrum, Scott (Chris) Westrum, Yaufun (Sharon) Leong, and George (Doris) Sunarjo; siblings, Mary Lathrop, Jim Palmer, and Nancy Palmer; 11 grandchildren, Stephan, Nadia, Carlie, Josh, Nate, Benji, Jonathan, Rebecca, Lucas, Nathan (Betsy) and David; two great-grandchildren, Aaron and Wesley; and stepmom, Evie Palmer.

Susan was preceded in death by her father, Edgar Eric Palmer; and mother, Lucille Loraine (Sanders) Hamilton.

Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at Randall & Roberts Fishers Mortuary, 12010 Allisonville Road in Fishers, with visitation from 11:00 am to the time of service.  Pastor John Reeder will officiate.
